Bridge Installation Tips

• Choose a bridge with one foot longer than minimum span you need. You will need a 5’ bridge over 4’ pond.
• It is important the bridge be as LEVEL as possible.
• It may not necessary to fasten the bridge down to the foundation.
• For best and long-lasting results, support the bridge from underneath each post.

Bridge Finishing Tips

• Some kind of finish is highly recommended (unless a natural, unfinished, aged-look is preferred). Finished wood tends to last much longer than unfinished wood.
• Paint is not recommended unless it is made for traffic. Paint tends to be slippery when wet and peels and cracks over time.
• For natural finishes: (1) Water seal (such as Thompson’s water seal) (2) Transparent / semi-transparent water based stain (3) Oil based, UV resistant stain (such as Penofin)
• For solid finishes: (1) Water based stain (2) Oil based stain (3) Oil based deck stain
